Katharine Moore was a most versatile female athlete. While growing up in Edmonton she was active in basketball and athletics in both community leagues and at Strathcona High School. Upon entering the University of Alberta in 1971, Katharine joined the Panda basketball team and made such an impression in her rookie year that she became the team co-captain in 1972. After taking a year away from school in 1975, she returned as a player and co-captain in 1976. She led the basketball team as a point guard for five seasons. Kathy was a very sound player who always led by example. In addition to her basketball abilities, she was a valued member of the Panda field hockey team for three seasons during her years at the University, and she was a member of the Senior Alberta team that won the women’s national championship in 1976.

At the conclusion of her final year of university competition in 1977, she was awarded the highest honor a female athlete can achieve at this University- the Bakewell Trophy.

She completed a Master’s Degree at the U of A, and her PhD at The University of Queensland in Australia, and then embarked on a career in university administration, first at The Queen’s University of Belfast, and then the University of Alberta.
