From 1968 to 1973, Ed was a member of the Edmonton Eskimos. He was chosen as the team representative of the Canadian Football League Players Association from 1969 to 1973. Considered to be one of the best defensive ends in the West, Ed continued to work during the off season in order to complete his law degree.
As well as being a respected athlete, Ed moved rapidly to establish himself as a force in the business community. By 1974, he had formed his own law firm and was acting as legal counsel for the C.F.L. Players Association. In 1986 he was elected as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta and has been twice re-elected. Also in 1986, he was appointed Queen's Counsel.
