Beverly Spencer was an outstanding court sport athlete at the University of Alberta. From 1964 to 1967 she dominated tennis and badminton intercollegiate competition. Her prowess in these sports earned her a place on the Canadian team to the 1967 Universiade, the World University Games.
An Edmontonian by birth, Bev was active in basketball, volleyball, athletics, and badminton at both community league and at Ross Sheppard High School prior to enrolling at the University of Alberta .in 1964. She graduated with a Bachelor of Physical Education degree in 1967. In addition to her excellence in racquet sports, she was also a member of the Panda basketball team during her years at the University of Alberta demonstrating the versatility indicative of a top athlete. Her feats of athletic excellence were recognized in 1966 when she was presented with The Bakewell Trophy, presented annually to the Most Outstanding Female Athlete at the University of Alberta.
After obtaining her teaching certificate in 1968, she embarked on a most successful teaching career in Edmonton high schools where she taught physical education and coached various sports.
