VANCOUVER -Â The UBC Thunderbirds captured both the men's and women's team titles at the 2021 Canada West Championships at the Squamish Valley Golf Club on Tuesday.
The UBC men won by 23 shots, finishing with a gross score of 25-under par. The UBC Women also dominated on home soil, winning by a staggering 27 shots, finishing with a team score of +3.Â
The Golden Bears shot identical scores as a unit in rounds 1 and 2, finishing with a score of 34-over par with matching 305's each day. The Pandas were nearly identical as well, placing seventh with a 303-304 score and a +175 gross total.

Individual women's champion Grace Bell led the way for UBC posting a one-under par round of 71 on Monday, and an even-par 72 on Tuesday. The first-year out of Calgary, Alta. bounced back from two bogeys on three holes to start the day, with a run of three straight birdies to get the round back on track.
The men's individual crown came down to a dramatic finish as UBC's Russell Howlett (66-71), the Day 1 leader, and Calgary's Ethan Banks (69-68) needed some extra golf after both finishing at -7. On the second playoff hole, Banks, a second-year from Calgary, Alta., knocked in his par putt to win the Canada West gold medal.
The UFV Cascades earned the men's team silver, followed by the Calgary Dinos. The UBC Okanagan Heat captured the women's silver, followed by the Victoria Vikes.
The Alberta men were led by
Ryan Wittrock, who fired an impressive 72 on Tuesday, to place in 27th with a +6 total score.
Nate Gerhardt (+10),
Ryan Hughes (+11), Josh Guthrie (+11), and
Chris Otto (+11) were the other Alberta men to compete in Vancouver.
Sarah Davis finished as the top Panda, following up a 98 on Monday with a 95 on tuesday to finish in 28th.
Kaila Gosset finished in a tie for 30th, with
Terynn Jensen placing 34th.Â
