Pandas place fifth, Bears sixth at 2025 CW Championship

Howes, Seto pace Alberta on the individual leaderboard

CHILLIWACK, BC - The UBC Thunderbird women continued their Canada West dynasty, while the UBC Okanagan Heat captured their second-straight men's golf banner on Tuesday at Chilliwack Golf Club. UBC won their sixth-straight CW women's title, besting the UBC Okanagan by six shots. The Golden Bears and Pandas posted solid finishes in a competitive field that featured exceptional scoring across two rounds.

On the men's side, UBC Okanagan surged to the top with a tournament-best 547 (-29), edging the UBC Thunderbirds by two strokes at 549 (-27). Manitoba rounded out the podium at 555 (-21), followed by Victoria at 562 (-14) and Fraser Valley at 574 (-2). The Golden Bears finished sixth overall at 579 (+3) after rounds of 289 and 290, ahead of Calgary, Regina, and Lethbridge. For the second-straight season however, the Bears fell short of automatically qualifying for nationals, finishing five shots behind UFV for fifth.

In the women's division, UBC continued its dominance with a wire-to-wire victory, finishing at 425 (-7). UBC Okanagan placed second at 431 (-1), while Victoria took third at 459 (+27). The Pandas improved markedly in the final round, carding 240 after an opening 250 to close fifth overall at 490 (+58), just seven shots back of Calgary.

The results cap a strong fall stretch for Alberta golf, highlighted by consistent top-10 individual performances earlier in the month. Ethan Howes tied for 11th at 140 (-4) to lead the Golden Bears, while Kai Baerg and Braydon Bouliane each finished at 146 (+2) in a tightly bunched leaderboard. Howes sat on the front page of the leaderboard after seven birdies in Round 1, but carded 17 pars and one birdie on Tuesday to slip down the standings.

On the women's side, Kalee Seto led the Pandas with a two-round total of 160 (+16), placing 17th, with Sabrina Lau and Hayden Desmarais close behind at 165 (+21) and 167 (+23) respectively. Seto improved her score by eight shots
