Leading the Pandas to a team silver medal at the 2022 Canada West Championship in Winnipeg, fourth-year sprinter Catharina Kluyts has been named the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week.
Kluyts was dominant at the conference meet, medalling in all four events she competed in. For her efforts, Kluyts was named both the Canada West Female Track Athlete of the Year, and the Female Performance of the Meet.
Her top event, and what earned her the Performance of the Meet award, was her gold-medal winning effort in the women's 60m hurdles. The Kinesiology student captured gold with a time of 8.27, breaking her previous Pandas program record in the 60m hurdles.Â
Kluyts followed that up with silver medals in the 4x200m and 4x400m relays, and a bronze in the 60m dash.Â
She will look to add U SPORTS gold to her tally this season next week, as the Golden Bears and Pandas head to Saint John, New Brunswick for the 2022 National Championship, April 1st to 3rd.Â
