Earning a pair of medals at the 2023 Canada West Championship, and setting a new Pandas record, third-year Education student Autumn Cole has been named the Sherlock Holmes Athelte of the Week.
Cole earned one gold and one bronze medal at the CW Track & Field Championships in Saskatoon, helping the Pandas as a team place second overall. The veteran jumper opened the competition with a bronze medal in the long jump on Friday, before winning her signature event, the triple jump on Saturday afternoon.Â
Cole finished with a jump of 5.77m in the long jump, finishing just five centimeters behind Calgary Dino Sienna MacDonald for second place.Â
Her best performance came in her strongest event on Saturday, as Cole captured gold in the triple jump with a distance of 12.23m. Cole's winning jump was a staggering 53 centimeters farther that anyone else in the field, and a new personal best. Her distance of 12.23m also set a new Pandas program record, besting the previous best mark of 12.22m set by Courtney Wilkes in 2014. The jump was also the third best of anyone in the country this season.Â
Cole and the UAlberta Track & Field teams will head back to Saskatoon in two weeks time, as the Huskies host the 2023 U SPORTS Championship, March 9th to 11th.Â
