Stopping eight of the 10 shots he faced in their weekend series in Lethbridge, Golden Bears Soccer keeper Liam Collens has been named the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week.
Collens continued his stellar play this season against the Pronghorns, allowing just two goals over two matches, as the Bears earned four of a possible six points in southern Alberta.Â
Facing incredibly difficult conditions, including wings gusting up to 90km/hour on Sunday, Collens needed to be sharp against a fiesty Pronghorns team. Collens made a pair of saves in their 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon, before turning aside six Lethbridge shots in the Bears 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
Through six conference games, Collens has allowed just three goals against, with his .909 save percentage leading Canada West. The Calgary, Alta. product has also recorded three clean sheets in 2021, with his seven career shutouts ranking seventh all-time in Bears history.
Collens and the Bears will return to Foote Field this weekend, when they take on the Calgary Dinos in a battle of the top two teams in the Canada West central division.Â
