Capturing his first individual title this past weekend in Langley, fifth-year Bear Riley Stuermer has been named the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week. 

The 2021 Canada West first team All-Star placed first at the at the Trinity Western Open with a time of 24:34.8, finishing 12 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. This comes on the heels of Stuermer placing second at the Sled Dog Open in Saskatoon, leading the Bears to the team title. 

Stuermer is the first Bear to win a race since Royden Radowits won the 2019 Sled Dog Open in Saskatoon. 

The Golden Bears placed second as a team, as Stuermer was joined by Will Cebuliak (6th), Cassian Murray-White (10th), and Brendan Simone (12th) as the other top finishers for the Alberta men. 

Next on the Cross-Country calendar is the annual Stewart Cup, scheduled for October 15th in Calgary.
