Second-year Pandas wing Cassie Jorgenson has been named the Sherlock Holmes Pub Athlete of the Week, following the first tournament of the Canada West Rugby 7s series. 

Jorgenson led the Pandas with three tries over the weekend inside the Dome at Foote Field, as the hosts finished with a 4-2 record, and a third place finish at the season-opening event.

All three of Jorgenson's tries came on Saturday, as the Pandas began competition with a 3-0 record. The Drayton Valley, Alta. product scored her first major score late in the second half against the Calgary Dinos, pushing the Pandas ahead en route to their 15-12 win.

She added two more tries in the Pandas 33-7 win over Trinity Western, finding the end zone twice early in the match.

Jorgenson, who was recently identified as a possible future Olympian from the RBC Training Ground program, was also excellent in defence for the Pandas. The sophomore Panda made some tremendous stops on Sunday, including a pair of game-saving tackles in the Pandas 17-12 overtime win over Calgary in the bronze medal match. 

Jorgenson and the Pandas will now train for the next two Rugby 7s tournaments, with the Victoria Vikes hosting February 12th and 13th, and the UBC Thunderbirds hosting the final tournament February 25th and 26th in Vancouver.
