Thrilling the home crowd at Kinsmen Sports Centre with a pair of medal performances, first-year Bear Diego Paz has been named the Sherlock Holmes Pubs Athlete of the Week. 

Paz earned two of the Bears five total medals, leading them to a fourth place finish as a team at home. 

The Kamloops, B.C. product earned the first medal for the Golden Bears and Pandas on Friday evening, winning the men's 1500m freestyle in a time of 15:21.05, finishing a full seven seconds ahead of UBC's Hugh McNeill, who earned the silver.

Paz followed that up with a bronze medal in the men's 400m individual medley, finishing with a time of 4:21.21. He also finished fourth in the 4x200m freestyle relay, fifth in the 200m butterfly, 10th in the 400m freestyle.

The next major event for the Bears and Pandas swim program will be the 2022 U SPORTS Championship, which runs February 25-27 in Quebec City, QC.
