Putting together one of the best individual performances in Canada West this season, fourth-year Bears linebacker Josiah Schakel has been named the Sherlock Holmes Pubs Athlete of the Week.

Schakel was dominate in the Bears 23-22 win over the Regina Rams on Saturday, recording nine solo tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles. His strip-sack of Regina QB Bryden O'Flaherty midway through the fourth quarter was a momentum changer, as the Bears were able to storm back from a 22-5 deficit. 

The Sherwood Park product continues to lead U SPORTS with 9.1 tackles per game this season, adding in eight tackles for a loss and four sacks through five conference games. His 45.5 tackles are the most in Canada West, and second in U SPORTS. 

Schakel and the 3-2 Golden Bears will conclude their regular season on Saturday, when they visit the 2-3 UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver. The conference playoffs will begin on November 13th.
