After capturing the Stewart Cup individual title this past weekend, Bears Cross-Country runner Riley Stuermer has been named the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week.

Stuermer and the Bears had a sensational race in Camrose, as the Alberta men earned each of the top five placings, highlighted by the first-place finish from Stuermer. The Bears finished with a perfect score of 22, with Saskatchewan finishing second with 37 points. 

The fourth-year St. Albert product finished the eight-kilometre race with a time of 26:34, narrowly edging fellow Bear Logan Arthur, who came it at 26:53.

This comes one week after Stuermer finished seventh at the Sled Dog Open in Saskatoon, as he finished with a time of 26:42 at the 8km loop. 

Stuermer and the U SPORTS No. 8 ranked Golden Bears will compete next at the 2021 Canada West Championship, hosted by the Huskies in Saskatoon.
