EDMONTON – The University of Alberta is set to make a significant impact at the 2025 Summer World University Games in Germany, with strong representation across multiple sports.

Team Canada's delegation for the 32nd Summer Games will include eight members of the U of A, including five student-athletes, one coach and two mission staff members. The games will be held in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany from July 16-27. In total, Canada's delegation will be 180, including 125 athletes and 55 coaches and staff.

Highlighting the U of A contingent is
four Golden Bears and Pandas Track & Field student-athletes and one coach, who will be competing in Bochum from the 21st to the 27th of July.

Rachel Grenke (Business - Pole Vault), andÂ
April Kippers (Arts - Pole Vault), and Golden Bear
Wesley Eze (Engineering - Throws) will don the red and white this summer for Team Canada.

Both Grenke and Eze head to Germany as medal threats for Canada, with Grenke earning a Canada West gold medal this past spring, and Eze being named the 2025 Canada West Field Athlete of the Year.

Ciera Heshka-Wolf (Education graduate), who was named the Canada West Female Assistant Coach of the Year this spring, will lead the throwers in Germany.
Coming off his rookie season with Golden Bears Volleyball, setter
Jarvis Page will represent Australia in Germany. Page spent the summer training with the Australian Senior Team. Men's Volleyball will run July 16-24 in Berlin.Â

U of A Science student
Alena Yu is one of 12 competing in Badminton for Team Canada. While this will be her first World University Games experience, Yu has competed at the 2023 World Junior Championship and 2025 Canadian University/College Championship. Badminton is set for July 17-26 in Mulheim.

Also named to Canada's official delegation are
Dr. Erika Perrson (Medical) and
Connor Hood (Communications) who will be on the
Canadian Mission Staff. Persson, a pediatric sport and exercise medicine physician at the University of Alberta will be working her third World University Games this summer (Summer 2015 – South Korea & Winter 2017 – Kazakhstan).

Hood, who has worked in communications for Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics since 2015, will be attending his first World University Games.

Team Canada is making its return to the FISU Summer World University Games after missing the 2023 event. Canada captured six medals (one gold, one silver, four bronze) at the Summer World University Games in Italy in 2019.
