Four UofA Track & Field athletes to represent Canada at 2025 Summer World University Games

Athletics begins on July 21st in Bochum, Germany

Three Pandas, one Golden Bear, and one UofA coach were among the 60 selected to represent Canada in Athletics at the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games in Germany.

Pandas Rachel Grenke, April Kippers, and Tise Okuboyejo and Golden Bear Wesley Eze will don the red and white this summer for Team Canada, as will assistant coach Ciera Heshka-Wolf.

Both Grenke and Eze are coming off excellent seasons in the Evergreen and Gold, with both being finalists for the University of Alberta's Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards.

Eze won a pair of Canada West medals in Regina, including gold in men's shot put, and was named the 2025 Canada West Field Athlete of the Year. He also added a silver in weight throw at the U SPORTS Championship in Windsor.

Grenke captured gold in women's pole vault at the Canada West Championship, setting a new conference record with a final jump of 4.22m, which tied her own Pandas program record from earlier in January. She earned a U SPORTS silver in March with a final jump of 4.10m in Windsor.

Kippers and Okuboyejo both completed their rookie seasons with the Pandas in 2024/25. Okuboyejo was on the Pandas bronze-medal winning 4x200m relay team at the Canada West Championship, with the Calgary product also earning silver at the Golden Bears Open in the 4x400m.

Kippers placed first in women's pole vault at the Pandas Open (3.61m), second at the Golden Bears Open, and fourth at the Sanderson Classic this season.

Heshka-Wolf, who was named the Canada West Female Assistant Coach of the Year this spring, will lead the throwers in Germany.

Team Canada is making its return to the FISU Summer World University Games, after missing the 2023 event. The 2025 edition will be staged in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany, with athletics taking place July 21-27 in Bochum, Germany.

Team Canada has won 83 medals all-time (10 gold, 40 silver, 33 bronze) in athletics at the at the FISU Summer World University Games dating back to the 1965 Universiade in Budapest.
