With a spot in the 2025 Montana's Brier at stake, 14 current and former Golden Bears will compete this week in the Boston Pizza Cup. The championship will be hosted by the Erskine Curling Club at the Stettler Recreation Centre from February 4th to 9th.Â
Among the 48 participants will be 14 current and former Golden Bears curlers, including both the Golden Bears Selects and Golden Bears Junior teams. It marks the second time that both varsity teams have qualified for Provincials, joining the 2023 Bears who competed at the River Cree Resort.Â
The Golden Bears juniors will open play on Thursday afternoon, as the team skipped by
Zach Davies open the tournament with a game against Team Humbke.Â
Entering the tournament seeded fourth, the Bears selects, skipped by
Johnson Tao, received a bye through the first round, and will take on the winner of Team Jacques vs Team Johnson.
Ryan Jacques is one of six alumni competing in Stettler this week.Â
Along with Jacques, other former Bears in the field include
Jason Ginter and
Parker Konschuh (Team Van Amsterdam),
Tristan Steinke and
Evan Asmussen (Team Vavrek), and
Karrick Martin (Team Koe).Â
Reverting back to their previous format, only the Provincial Champion will qualify for the Brier in Kelowna, with the Wildcard teams already being announced.Â
The tripe-knockout format will culminate in page playoffs on Saturday night, followed by the semifinal and final on Sunday morning/afternoon.Â
