Randy Gregg to be inducted into Edmonton Oilers HOF

Gregg won two University Cups with the Golden Bears

Golden Bears Hockey great Randy Gregg will have another accolade to hang on his mantel, as the five-time Stanley Cup Champion will be inducted into the Edmonton Oilers Hall of Fame. 

Gregg and fellow 2024 inductee Craig McTavish will be honoured on October 25 prior to the Oilers game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

A member of the Golden Bears from 1975-1979, Gregg was a member of four Canada West Championship teams, and captained the Bears University Cup winning teams in 1978 and 1979. He was named the Wilson Challenge Trophy winner in 1979 as the UofA's top male athlete, 

The Edmonton native was inducted into the University of Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1983, and the Canada West Hall of Fame in 2022. 

Gregg joined the Oilers during the club's 1982 playoff run, Gregg would go on to spend parts of nine seasons and 453 games with Edmonton, scoring 40 goals and 148 assists for 188 points, and becoming one of just seven players in team history to appear on the roster of all five Stanley Cup winners. His 130 playoff appearances (13 goals and 39 assists for 52 points) ranks sixth in franchise history and third among Oilers defencemen.

He is also a two-time Olympian, representing Team Canada in 1980 (Lake Placid) and 1988 (Calgary). 

Following his final retirement in 1992, Gregg completed his residency program at the University of Alberta and became a family physician, operating a sports medicine practice in Edmonton. He is also managing director of the Edmonton Riverhawks collegiate baseball team of the West Coast League.
