WINNIPEG - The Guelph Gryphons continued their run of dominance at the national level in track and field on Saturday, winning their seventh consecutive men's banner and sixth consecutive women's title at the James Daly Fieldhouse.
Rookie Panda Rachel Grenke earned the first medal for Alberta at the U SPORTS Championship in Winnipeg, picking up a silver medal in the Pole Vault.Â
Grenke made 4.10m, one centimeter off her personal best, 2 centimeters off the program record, and five short of eventual gold medalist Jennifer Elizarov from Guelph.Â
The Golden Bears and Pandas added four medals to their total on the final day of the 2024 U SPORTS Championship, punctuated by a gold medal win in the men's 4x400m relay.Â
Trailing Guelph heading into the anchor leg, Canada West Male Athlete of the Year
Justin Rose closed the gap in the first 100m, before holding off a late charge from the host Manitoba Bisons.Â
Olivia Cooper added a silver medal in the 1500m, finishing just one second behind the eventual champion from Guelph.Â
Tegra Jan-King (Triple Jump) and the Bears 4x200m relay teams also added bronze medals on Saturday. The Bears finished the championship in 5th, with the Pandas placing 6th.Â
