Bears to take on world's best at Champions Cup

Bears selects to participate in first Grand Slam event this week in Olds, AB

Participating in their first ever Grand Slam event, the Golden Bears selects will take on the best curling teams on the planet this week at the Kioti Tractor Champions Cup in Olds, Alberta. 

The Golden Bears, comprised of Ryan Jacques, Desmond Young, Andrew Gittis, & Gabe Dyck, earned their berth in the Champions Cup by winning the 2021 Vesta Energy Classic in the fall. The Bears also capped off their varsity season by capturing the 2022 Canada West Championship in Regina in February. 

Team Jacques will open the final Grand Slam event of 2022 with a clash against Alberta rival, and four-time Brier Champion Kevin Koe at 2:30 p.m. MT on Tuesday afternoon. Participating in one of the deepest fields on the curling calendar, the Bears will also take on Team Jacobs (Wednesday @ 8:30 a.m.), Team Gushue (Thursday @ 12:00 p.m.), Team Sturmay (Friday @ 8:30 a.m.) and Team Epping (Friday @ 8:00 p.m.). 

A total of 11 current or former Golden Bears will be competing in Olds, with Team Sturmay featuring four Bears alumni, and three suiting up with Team Bottcher.
