Golden Bears blank Trinity Western

EDMONTON – Caden Ruby scored his second goal of the season and Josh Belbin added an insurance marker in the second half as the University of Alberta Golden Bears beat the Trinity Western Spartans 2-0 on Saturday at Foote Field.

Ruby opened the scoring eight minutes in, finishing off a feed from Jackson Belbin to give Alberta an early lead. The Golden Bears carried that advantage into the second half before Josh Belbin doubled it in the 65th minute, converting a chance set up by Prince Amanda. Alberta controlled play throughout, out-shooting Trinity Western 17-8 with nine shots on target.

Goalkeeper Trystan Read made four saves to earn the shutout, while Trinity Western's netminder kept the score respectable with seven saves of his own on nine shots faced.

The win moves Alberta to 4-2-1 on the season, while Trinity Western falls to 3-5-1. The Golden Bears will host the UBC Thunderbirds on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2:15 p.m.
