LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Ben Gingras scored the first goal of his career in the 75th minute to lift the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns to a 1-0 win over the University of Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday at Community Stadium.

The game was scoreless and tightly played through the first 74 minutes, with both goalkeepers holding firm. Alberta had the better of the chances for long stretches, out-shooting the Pronghorns 13-8 on the afternoon, but Lethbridge broke through when Gingras beat Alberta keeper Trystan Read for the game's only goal. Alberta pushed for an equalizer down the stretch, but Lethbridge goalkeeper Tegan Romaine turned aside a pair of late chances to preserve the shutout and the win.

Caden Ruby led Alberta with four shots, including a pair of headers, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Golden Bears also picked up three corner kicks in the first half without converting. Read made his lone save of the match on Lethbridge's other shot on target. Discipline was an issue for both sides late, with five yellow cards shown to Lethbridge players and three to Alberta over the final 20 minutes.

The loss drops Alberta to 3-1-1 on the season, while Lethbridge improves to 2-2-0.

The Golden Bears will travel to face the Calgary Dinos on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m.

Lethbridge will host the MacEwan Griffins on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m.
