Game Recap: Pandas Hockey |

Pandas pick up much-needed win over Saskatchewan

Kieser scores lone shootout goal in 2-1 win over Huskies

EDMONTON - Trailing late in the third, Abby Soyko netted the game-tying goal with just two minutes remaining, before Natalie Kieser scored the only goal in the shootout to secure a 2-1 Pandas win.

The win sees the Pandas (9-6-6) come within one point of TWU for second in the West Division of Canada West with two games in hand.

In net, Mackenzie Dojahn anchored the Pandas with a composed 17-save performance, turning aside key chances during Saskatchewan power plays and overtime. For the Huskies, Jayde Cadieux opened the scoring on the power play midway through the third period, while goaltender Clara Juca was sharp in defeat, stopping 27 of 29 shots and keeping Saskatchewan level through long stretches of pressure.

First Period

The opening frame unfolded as a cautious, physical battle, with both teams prioritizing structure over risk. Saskatchewan earned two early power plays following tripping minors to Riley Smith and Hayleigh Craig, but Alberta's penalty kill held firm, limiting the Huskies to the perimeter. The Pandas generated late pressure of their own, though Juca and the Saskatchewan defence kept the game scoreless after twenty minutes.

Second Period

Alberta carried momentum into the middle frame, drawing interference and holding penalties to Shelby Williamson and Kendra Zuchotzki, but the Pandas power play was unable to convert. Saskatchewan countered late in the period when Sara Kazeil was whistled for hooking, yet Dojahn turned aside all six shots she faced in the frame to keep the contest deadlocked heading into the third.

Third Period

The deadlock broke at 7:48 when Saskatchewan capitalized on a power play. Jayde Cadieux snapped home her first of the season, finishing a setup from Bronwyn Boucher and Kendra Zuchotzki to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

Alberta responded with urgency, controlling possession and outshooting Saskatchewan down the stretch. The equalizer came at 18:03, as Abby Soyko found space in the slot and buried a feed from Jadynn Morden, tying the game 1-1 and sending it to overtime.

Shootout

Dojahn stopped all three Huskies shots in the shootout, with Kieser scoring in the final round to secure a 2-1 Pandas win.
