Edmonton, AB – The playoff field started to take shape after the second day of the 2026 Canada West Curling Championships at Saville Centre.
Â
The Calgary Dinos lead the men's standings thanks to a perfect 6-0 record, while the host Alberta Pandas sit atop the women's table with a 5-0 mark. Calgary is the lone unbeaten team on the men's half, with the Dinos and Alberta Golden Bears (5-1) having already clinched a spot in the playoffs on Sunday.
Â
After three dominant wins on Thursday, Calgary stayed hot, defeating UBCO 9-1, Thompson Rivers 9-2, and Brandon 8-1 on Friday. The Dinos have yet to have a game go the full eight ends, forcing early handshakes in each of their six games. Calgary will take on Alberta and UBC in their final two draws tomorrow, with their meeting against the Bears potentially previewing a playoff game on Sunday.
Â
The host Bears dropped their first ever game at Saville Centre in a conference championship, with the defending champion Regina Cougars earning a 6-4 win in easily the game of the day. Trailing 4-3 with hammer in the eighth, Cougars skip Carter Williamson made a difficult angle-runback with his last to score three and steal a 6-4 win. Regina also earned wins over UBC (8-4) and Lethbridge (7-1) on Friday and sit in second with a 5-1 record. The Cougars can clinch a playoff spot with one win on Saturday.
Â
On the women's side, Alberta is the lone team to have secured a playoff spot and remain the only unbeaten team, sporting a 5-0 record heading into Sunday. The Pandas opened with an 8-5 win over Regina, scoring three in the eighth. After leading 5-0 through three ends, the Pandas also had a test in the afternoon draw after a valiant comeback bid from UBC Okanagan, eventually resulting in a 6-4 Alberta win. Competing in their first ever Canada West Championship, the Heat own a 2-2 record and are firmly in the playoff mix entering Saturday.
Â
Regina (4-1) sits in second, followed by both Calgary and Victoria at 3-2.
Â
Saturday will see the three final round-robin draws at Saville Centre, scheduled for 9:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. All games are streamed on the CurlingZone YouTube page.
