Story Lines: 

• For the second time in three years, Saville Centre will host the Canada West Curling Championships.
• The Golden Bears have won five of the last six conference titles, including 2024 on home ice.
• The Pandas will be in search of a second title in three years, and fourth since 2019.
• Both the Golden Bears (Team Davies) and Pandas (Team Richards) competed this past week at the 2026 Alberta Provincial Championship in Okotoks.
• The 2026 CW Championship will feature an eight-game round robin, with the top four teams advancing to Sunday's semifinals. The top two teams will advance to the U SPORTS Championship, hosted by the University of Regina.

Story Lines:

• The Golden Bears and Pandas host the 53rd annual Golden Bears Open this weekend at the Pavilion. 
• This is the first of two full-field events the University of Alberta will host, along with the Pandas Open in early February.
• Among Alberta athletes ranked high nationally are Bears Clay Grattidge (600m, ) Tyler Sharpe (1000m), Caidyn Maver (High Jump), Isaiah Baker (Long Jump), Tekoa Korlensen (Pole Vault), and Pandas Riona Morrison (60m, 300m), Rachel Grenke (Pole Vault), and Addison Lauer (Triple Jump).

• The Golden Bears have won four-straight conference titles, while the Pandas are aiming for a third CW championship win in five seasons.
