EDMONTON - The Alberta Pandas asserted complete control from the opening tip on Friday night at David Atkinson Gymnasium, defeating the MacEwan Griffins 79–23 behind a balanced and efficient offensive performance.
Mishynn Miller led all scorers with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting while adding four rebounds and three steals.
McKinley Penninga supplied 12 points off the bench, shooting 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, and
Kiah Easton-Ihediohanma contributed nine points, three steals and two assists.
Jayden Tanner was key on the glass with eight rebounds while adding eight points, and
Rylee Semeniuk delivered eight points and a team-high five assists.
The win sees the U SPORTS No. 2 ranked Pandas improve to 7-0 this season, while MacEwan drops to 0-9.
Alberta set the tone early, building a 20–4 first-quarter lead. Miller opened the scoring with a layup at 9:54, followed by a three-pointer from
Reece Hall at 8:15 off a pass from
Morgan Harris. Tanner extended the advantage with a pair of free throws at 7:36, and Harris capped the quarter with a fast-break layup at 1:25 after blocking Unity Obasuyi's attempt moments earlier.
The Pandas continued their defensive pressure in the second quarter, forcing nine MacEwan turnovers in the frame. Miller added a tip-in at 9:33, and
Annacy Palmer converted a layup at 7:55 assisted by
Elise Toogood. Tanner then scored in transition at 2:43 following a steal, pushing Alberta's lead to 28–10 before Penninga closed the half with a layup at 1:56.
Alberta maintained its momentum in the third. Miller scored twice inside—first at 9:45 from a Tanner assist, then again at 6:27 off a setup from Palmer. Semeniuk added a layup at 3:29 and later assisted Penninga for a jumper at 3:07. The quarter ended with Alberta ahead 51–15.
The fourth quarter saw Alberta's bench take command. Penninga hit a three-pointer at 3:19, followed by another from
Annacy Palmer at 2:58. Semeniuk continued her strong playmaking, assisting
Sophie Hall's layup with six seconds left after earlier finding
Sarah Kleib for a three at 1:46. Alberta outscored MacEwan 28–6 in the final frame, closing out a dominant two-way performance built on 16 steals and 28 points off turnovers.
