Spartans blank Pandas 4–0 to sweep weekend series

EDMONTON, Alta. — The Trinity Western Spartans completed a weekend sweep of the Alberta Pandas on Saturday night, skating to a 4–0 shutout at Clare Drake Arena.

Goaltender Olivia Davidson stopped all 21 shots she faced for her first career shutout, while four different Spartans found the back of the net in a clinical all-around performance. Trinity Western finished 2-for-4 on the power play, while Alberta went 0-for-5. Misty Rey made 17 saves for the Pandas in the loss.

The loss drops Alberta to 3-5-2, with four of their seven losses coming at the hands of TWU. The Spartans move six points ahead of Alberta with a 7-3-0 record.

First Period

After a back-and-forth opening frame, Kara Yackel broke the deadlock at 19:33, burying a pass from Kyra Anderson to give Trinity Western the lead. The late goal stood as the game's first breakthrough after Alberta had killed off an early boarding penalty against Ashley Breitkreuz.

Second Period

The Spartans doubled their advantage at 8:33 when Kyra McDonald converted on a feed from Kelsey Ledoux and Chloe Reid, making it 2–0. Alberta had two power-play opportunities earlier in the frame but failed to generate sustained pressure.

Trinity Western added to their total late in the period. Following offsetting penalties, Jadynn Morden was called for unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing, giving the Spartans a power play. At 15:56, Jordyn Matthews capitalized, finishing a setup from Reid and Kasey Ditner to push the lead to 3–0.

Third Period

The Spartans' special teams continued to roll early in the third. On a tripping call to Brayden Stewart, Reid struck on the power play at 3:03, assisted by Matthews and Presleigh Giesbrecht, extending the margin to 4–0. Alberta earned three power plays in the final 10 minutes but could not solve Davidson, who closed out the shutout with eight third-period saves.
