The 16-time University Cup Champion Golden Bears will journey across the pond this fall, as they will open their 2024/25 season with a pair of non-conference games in Belfast, UK.Â
The Golden Bears will battle the Carleton University Ravens on August 31st, followed by a game against the home Belfast Giants on September 1st. All three games, including the Giants game against Carleton on August 30th will take place in the SSE Arena in Belfast.Â
The Belfast Giants are members of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), the highest level of professional hockey in the United Kingdom. The Giants are seven-time EIHL regular season champions, and three time playoff champions, with their most recent titles in both coming in 2023.Â
"Golden Bears Hockey is very much looking forward to our trip and exhibition games in Belfast against the Giants and Carleton Ravens. They will be two very tough games away from home, but it will be a great way for the team to bond ahead of what will be a very competitive Canada West season," said Bears GM
Stan Marple.Â
"We have had many of our alumni playing in the Elite League, including former Belfast Giants
Steven Owre and
Tyler Soy. We look forward to visiting both Belfast and Dublin during our time overseas, and we appreciate the invitation from Steve [Thornton] and the help of the Giants in arranging this awesome hockey experience for our players and staff."
The 2024/25 Canada West hockey schedule will be released on July 2nd.Â
