Simon, Paige lead Bears over 'Horns

LETHBRIDGE - The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns faced a formidable opponent in the University of Alberta Golden Bears during the celebrated Hall of Fame Night, with the home team looking to improve their 4-14 record against the visitors 12-6 standing. Despite a valiant effort, the Pronghorns were unable to secure a victory, falling 77-63.

Adam Paige and Isaac Simon led the Bears with 18 points each, with Brandon Meiklejohn adding 12.

The match began with the Golden Bears establishing an early lead, thanks in part to Simon's eight first-quarter points. The Pronghorns, undeterred, fought back with key plays including Shae Gibb's and-one layup and a three-pointer by Brady Baines. Despite these efforts and Gibb finishing the first quarter with 10 points, the Pronghorns found themselves trailing 23-15.

Entering the second quarter, the Pronghorns looked to narrow the gap, with Gibb continuing to break down the Bears defense. Contributions from Kymani Pollard and Jaxen Perrett, including timely three-pointers, brought the Pronghorns within striking distance. However, the Bears' consistent shooting from beyond the arc kept them in the lead, with the score at 45-34 by halftime.

The third quarter saw the Pronghorns striving to close the lead, fueled by Gibb's drives and Baines' three-point play. Despite their efforts and keeping the game within reach, the Golden Bears managed to extend their lead to 12 points, showcasing their shooting strength and depth.

In the final quarter, the Pronghorns faced challenges in mounting a comeback, as the Golden Bears continued their offensive pressure.

Looking ahead, the Pronghorns and Golden Bears will face off once more in a rematch at the University of Lethbridge Gymnasium tomorrow night at 7 p.m. MST.
