SASKATOON, SK - The Golden Bears finally found a spot on the podium on the final day of the 2023 U SPORTS Championship in Saskatoon, as fifth-year jumper
Spencer Allen earned a silver medal in the pole vault.
Allen finishes his Bears career a perfect 5/5 at the U SPORTS Championship, earning a medal at every national championship he competed in. The Kamloops product earned silver in 2016, 2019, and 2023, to go along with his gold medals in 2017 and 2018.
As a team, the Bears placed 10th, while the Pandas finished 5th.
The Pandas were plagued with fourth place finishes on Sunday, as Autumn Cole (triple jump), Olivia Cooper (1500m), and the 4x400m relay team all finished one spot off the podium. Tegra Jan-King (triple jump), and both the Bears 4x200m relay team, and 4x400m relay team all earned 5th place finishes on Sunday.
The Guelph Gryphons made it five golden sweeps at the 2023 FFUN U SPORTS Track & Field Championship presented by Discover Saskatoon. Guelph handily won both team banners, marking the fifth straight time that the Gryphons had swept both the male and female team championships.
On the women's side, the Gryphons posted 166 points, 100 points ahead of the the silver medalist Western Mustangs. The Saskatchewan Huskies narrowly missed out on the silver medal, as their 65 points was one point short of Western.
For the men, the Gryphons also dominated the standings, scoring 123 points. Toronto took home the silver with 55.5, and the Manitoba Bisons were close behind and took home the bronze team medal with 55 points.
