Armaan Nijjar joins Golden Bears Soccer

Get to know the newest Golden Bears soccer recruit, Armaan Nijjar

The Golden Bears soccer program is pleased to announce their first recruit for the 2021 season, Armaan Nijjar.

Nijjar will join the Golden Bears after an incredibly impressive junior career in Victoria, highlighted by three Premier Provincial Championships, and being selected to represent Team BC on numerous occasions. The centre back also brings tremendous leadership to the Bears, being the captain of the U23 Pacific FC Tridents. 

"I am excited to have Armaan join Golden Bears soccer for the 2021 season," said Bears Soccer head coach Martin Fenger-Andersen. "Armaan is a great student and a hard working, intelligent, and ambitious young soccer player with an excellent playing background from his time with the Vancouver Island Wave and the Pacific FC U-23 programs in Victoria. I look forward to him joining our squad next fall and making a positive impact both on and off the field as a member of Golden Bears soccer."

Armaan Nijjar

Positions: Center back or central defensive midfield
Current team: U23 Pacific FC Tridents
Height: 6-2
Weight: 155
Career Accomplishments:
- Current Captain of U23 Pacific FC Tridents
- Former Team captain of the Vancouver Island Wave (VI Wave)
- Captured three-consecutive BC Premier Cup Provincial Championships with Vancouver Island Wave
- Provincial Tournament MVP with Vancouver Island Wave
- Captained the VI Wave 2003 team to the club's first visit to the National Championship in Laval, Quebec in 2018
- Selected to represent Team BC on a number of occasions, and a member of the B.C. High Performance Program
- Invited to train with Pacific FC First Team
 
Why did you commit to the Golden Bears Soccer program and the University of Alberta? 
"I have chosen to continue my academic and soccer career at the University of Alberta based on my desire to better myself as an athlete, student and person. I strongly believe that I can hit the ground running, helping my new team continue to excel in all competitions and make an instant impact. I am also excited continue my academics at the University of Alberta, especially in light of it's high ranking programs."

What should Golden Bears fans expect from you as a player? 
"Golden Bears fans can expect a team player who will always work hard and contribute both defensively and offensively. I am an athlete that has a strong desire to win, and I believe in leading with my strong work ethic and setting high expectations and goals for myself and the team.

I look forward to meeting the team and attending the University of Alberta."
 
What are your academic and career goals? 
"My academic focus will be Kinesiology, as I hope to pursue a career in Physiotherapy."
