Coach “Marps” played four seasons with the Golden Bears, winning two Canada West Hockey conference titles and was a member of the 1992 CIS University Cup championship team. After finishing his Golden Bears career as an assistant captain in 1993-94, Stan went overseas where he compiled an outstanding playing and coaching career.

During 13 seasons in Great Britain, Marple compiled an outstanding record as head coach and General Manager of the Guildford Flames, Swindon Ice Lords and Milton Keynes Kings of the English Premier League. From 1995-96 to 2006-07 he compiled a professional coaching record of 476-211-51 (.680), while leading his teams to four league championships (1997, 1998, 2001, 2006) and four playoff championships (1997, 1998, 2001, 2004). Twice voted Coach-of-the-Year by the British Ice Hockey Writers’ Association (1998, 2006), he served as an assistant coach with Great Britain’s men’s team in 1999, helping guide the national team to the silver medal at the 1999 IIHF Division 1 world championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Stan and his family returned to Canada in 2007 and he was an assistant coach with Alberta in 2007-08, when the Golden Bears won their last national title. Marple has served as the Bears General Manager since 2012, winning another six Canada West Championships, and the 2014, 2015, and 2018 University Cup Championships.
