All student-athletes, regardless of team/program are required to complete a pre-season medical through PRIVIT. PRIVIT is a third-party electronic platform where you will fill out forms and submit documentation. This documentation is then reviewed by a Varsity Health staff member for clearance to participate with your respective team or program.
Access and getting started
- To access PRIVIT, visit ualberta.privitprofile.ca
- If you are new to the UofA (1st year or transfer) you will need to register and create a new account.
- If you have previously created an account with PRIVIT, log in with your email. Do NOT create a new account or you will have to start the entire process from the beginning.
- Once logged in, the platform will walk you through all required documentation. It is a step by step process as you scroll down the page. New student-athletes are required to input all medical history. Returning student-athletes are required to report NEW incidents (injuries/illness) that have occurred since your last PRIVIT submission in the previous athletic season.
Completion Status Bar at the Top
At the top of your home page is a completion status bar. Hovering over this bar will show you all of the requirements that you have not yet completed. Clicking on that bar will bring up that same list with links to take you directly to the missing requirement. Once that bar is green, you have completed everything.
Clearance Status
On your home page, you can view your clearance status to determine if you are eligible to participate. Note that clearance is not automatic, it must be manually determined by a member of Varsity Health. If you have questions about your clearance status, please contact Varsity Health.
Reminder to complete the Physician Form
First year or transfer athletes are required to complete the Physician Assessment Form. This form must be completed in person by a medical doctor. If you have previously completed this form, you are not required to complete it again. Similar forms from other institutions/organizations may be accepted at the discretion of Varsity Health staff.
You are recommended to see your family physician instead of going to a medicentre. Local (Edmonton and area) that do not have a family physician are STRONGLY encouraged to book an appointment at the University Health Centre or at the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic. If you book at one of these clinics, be sure to identify yourself as a Varsity Athlete when you call.
Note that this service is not covered by provincial healthcare and the associated fee (~$100) is your responsibility.
Troubleshooting
For technical assistance, please contact the PRIVIT Help Desk
If you have questions related to a specific form or other parts of the process, please contact Brennan Mahon
Note on some Additional Requirements to PRIVIT
Some requirements on PRIVIT may not be updated or available when you first log on. As more requirements become available, your completion status will revert to Incomplete and you will need to log back on to your PRIVIT account to complete. This most commonly occurs with the CCES True Sport Clean seminar.
Deadline
The deadline for completion of all requirements is one week prior to your first team practice or tryout. Failure to complete on time may result in the student-athlete being held out of training.
Confidentiality and Information Review
The information you submit through PRIVIT is subject to the Consent for Disclosure of Health and Other Information Policy created by Varsity Health. This policy has been created under the guidance of the Alberta Health Information Act and the Alberta Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This policy can be found in its entirety on PRIVIT.
