VICTORIA, BC - The Alberta Pandas endured a demanding opening day in Victoria, finishing 1–2 after three tightly packed matches. The University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria led day one, going 3-0 at the second stop in the Canada West 7s series.Â
Halle Walters provided Alberta's first spark of the tournament, scoring the Pandas opening try against Lethbridge in Round 2 to set the tone early.
Kaitlin Tetteh-Wayoe delivered the decisive play of the day for Alberta, crossing the line in the second half against Lethbridge. Later in the day,
Nina McLaren accounted for Alberta's only points against UBC, showing composure to finish under pressure in the second half.
