PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Patrick Kondraciuk scored in the 66th minute to pull the University of Alberta Golden Bears even, and the two sides battled to a 2-2 draw with the UNBC Timberwolves on Friday at Masich Place Stadium that ended with a red card on each team.
Alberta dominated the shot count, out-shooting UNBC 17-4 with 10 shots on target, but UNBC goalkeeper made seven saves to preserve the point. Trystan Read did not face a shot on target for Alberta in the draw. The result leaves Alberta at 4-3-2 on the season, while UNBC moves to 0-5-4.
UNBC struck first when Luis Hirsch scored the first goal of his career in the 13th minute, assisted by Kaiden Young. Alberta answered quickly, with Prince Amanda tying it up seven minutes later off a feed from Justin George. Young put UNBC back in front before the half, converting a Luis Beck assist to make it 2-1 at the break. Alberta pushed for the equalizer in the second half and got it when Kondraciuk capped a pass from Anson Minty in the 66th minute. The match turned chaotic in stoppage time, with UNBC's Charlie Beauvais and Alberta's Justin George both sent off with red cards in the dying seconds.
The Golden Bears will travel to face the UFV Cascades on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. UNBC will host the Mount Royal Cougars on Sunday, Oct. 4, at noon.
