Guezen, Kolody enter record books in 3-2 Pandas win

Pandas stars shine in five-set thriller in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS, BC - Abby Guezen and Justine Kolody entered the record books on Saturday as the Pandas squeaked out a 3-2 win over TRU.

Guezen hit the 30-kill mark for the second time in her varsity career, finishing just three kills shy of her program record of 33. Fifth-year setter Justine Kolody dished out a career-high 60 assists, the fourth most in a single match in Pandas history.

The Pandas had 70 kills as a team in the win, as they improve to a conference-best 16-2 this season, and have clinched a top-two seed in Canada West.

Allie Moore was a force at the net, recording 13 kills on .550 efficiency while piling up eight block assists to anchor the Pandas defence. Payton Henderson contributed 10 kills and steady serve-receive work, while Laila Johnston added 11 kills and five block assists despite facing heavy volume. Defensively, Misha Hameed led all players with 23 digs, stabilizing Alberta through extended rallies.

For Thompson Rivers, Rida Erlalelitepe posted 14 kills and 18.0 points, while Hail Ward added 12 kills and four aces. Keira Gent chipped in 12 kills, and Maria Dancheva finished with 11.5 points.

Set One

Alberta opened sharply, hitting .407 in the set. Guezen and Moore combined for early kills, while Moore established herself defensively with multiple blocks that slowed the WolfPack attack. The Pandas built a steady cushion and closed the set behind clean side-out execution.

Set Two

The WolfPack responded in a tight second frame that featured 16 tie scores. Gent and Erlalelitepe found success in transition, while Alberta was unable to close despite late kills from Guezen. TRU capitalized on extended rallies to level the match.

Set Three

Momentum swung further toward the hosts in the third. Ward delivered key service pressure, and Erlalelitepe converted high-volume swings to give TRU a 2-1 lead. Alberta stayed within reach behind Guezen, but the WolfPack closed the set with a late run.

Set Four

Facing elimination, Alberta responded with composure. Moore controlled the net defensively, Johnston scored on quick sets, and Guezen closed rallies from both pins. The Pandas limited TRU to .206 hitting, forcing a deciding fifth set.

Set Five

Alberta seized control early in the tiebreak. Guezen scored four kills in the set, Kolody distributed cleanly in transition, and Moore added another block assist to widen the gap. The Pandas closed on a decisive run, holding TRU to -.042 hitting in the final frame.
