Tanner scores 25 in Pandas 65-61 win over Regina

Alberta hands Regina first loss of season, splits weekend series

REGINA, SK - Fifth-year guard Jayden Tanner scored 25 of the Pandas 65 points as Alberta bounced back from Friday night's loss to hand Regina their first defeat of the season.

The win keeps the Pandas home-playoff hopes alive, as they now sit two games behind the Cougars for the second seed in the Prairie Division. The 13-3 Pandas will visit the 12-4 Calgary Dinos next weekend.

Tanner went 8-for-15 from the field and repeatedly attacked the rim in key moments. Annacy Palmer added 14 points, including timely fourth-quarter baskets, while Mishynn Miller posted a rugged double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring Alberta's interior defence. Morgan Harris chipped in nine points, three assists, and four steals, providing pressure on both ends of the floor.

For Regina, Cara Misskey led the Cougars with 15 points, while Jade Belmore finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, including late three-point attempts that kept the hosts within striking distance.

First Quarter

Regina seized early momentum behind efficient transition play, opening a 18-14 lead after ten minutes. Alberta stayed close through Tanner, who scored eight first-quarter points, including a driving layup at 6:52 and another at 1:25 off an assist from Ella Rees. The Cougars countered with balanced scoring, highlighted by late buckets from Lilly Vande Graaf to hold the narrow edge.

Second Quarter

Alberta settled into the game in the second, outscoring Regina 20-16 to take a 34-34 tie into halftime. Tanner continued to control the tempo, converting a pull-up jumper at 8:10 and adding a free throw moments later. Morgan Harris knocked down a three at 3:07, assisted by Kiah Easton-Ihediohanma, while Palmer added free throws late to keep Alberta level despite Regina's interior work from Misskey.

Third Quarter

The third period belonged to Regina, as the Cougars edged ahead 13-10. Alberta struggled offensively, shooting just 2-for-14 in the frame. Misskey tied the game with a three at 8:17, and Belmore followed with strong drives to help Regina take a 47–44 lead into the final quarter. Miller's free throws at 6:34 briefly swung momentum back Alberta's way, but Regina closed the quarter on a late run.

Fourth Quarter

Alberta responded with its strongest stretch of the night, winning the final frame 21-14. Palmer sparked the rally with a jumper at 7:30, then buried a three at 6:47 to cut the deficit to five. Tanner tied the game at 4:37 with a layup, then gave Alberta the lead seconds later at the line. With 2:32 remaining, Palmer tipped in a miss to make it 61-57, and Tanner sealed the outcome with free throws in the final minute.

Alberta forced 22 Regina turnovers, converted 28 points off turnovers, and closed with composure to secure the 65–61 victory on the road.
