Wynn stops career-high 14 in 1-1 draw at Mount Royal

CALGARY - Fifth-year goalkeeper Autumn Wynn made a career-high 14 saves, backstopping the Pandas to a 1-1 draw against MRU. The Pandas were outshot 22-6, with MRU holding a 15-2 shot on target advantage.

Wynn ranks second in Pandas history with 178 saves, and is tied for second with 20 career wins.

Mount Royal came out firing early, forcing Wynn into a string of saves before breaking through in the 10th minute. Forward Julia Makoloski collected the ball and finished unassisted for her first goal of the season, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

The Pandas answered before halftime. In the 40th minute, midfielder Makenna Van der Veen struck from distance to level the match at 1-1, her first goal of the campaign.

Mount Royal pressed for the go-ahead goal throughout the second half, recording 12 shots and seven on target, but Wynn was sharp. She finished with 14 saves on 15 shots faced, including a series of stops against Gabrielle Linford and Tamara Djurisic to preserve the tie.

Alberta managed just six total shots, two on target, with Van der Veen leading the effort and Juliana Mackown adding one of the Pandas best chances in the 50th minute that was stopped by Cougars keeper Ella Filek.

The Cougars outshot Alberta 22-6 overall and held an 8-3 edge in shots on goal in the second half alone, but were unable to solve Wynn a second time. Alberta generated eight corner kicks to Mount Royal's three, relying on set pieces to create opportunities late, while also weathering pressure and committing seven second-half fouls.

Filek finished with one save for Mount Royal, who remain unbeaten at 2-0-1. Alberta moved to 1-0-2 on the season.

The Pandas will visit the Calgary Dinos tomorrow afternoon.
