Rey, Pandas shutout STFX in Consolation Semifinal

Pandas advance to Consolation Final on Sunday in Elmira

ELMIRA, ON - Misty Rey stopped all 36 STFX shots she faced on Saturday morning, leading the Alberta Pandas to a 3-0 win in the Consolation Semifinal.

After being held off the scoresheet in their quarter-final loss to Waterloo, the Pandas scored in each period on Saturday, which included their first powerplay marker of the tournament. Jadynn Morden, Hayleigh Craig, and Izzy Lajoie scored for the Pandas, who out-chanced the X-Women over the first two periods.

20 of Rey's 36 saves came in the third period alone, as STFX pushed for their first goal of the contest.

Alberta will move on to play either UBC or UNB in the Consolation Final at 8:00 a.m. MT on Sunday in Elmira.

Rey was sharp early, making six saves in the first five minutes. It wasn't until midway through the first when Alberta found their stride on offence, generating some o-zone possesion time. Despite going 0/2 on the powerplay in the first, the Pandas found their first goal of the tournament in the final minute of the first. Payton Laumbach forced a turnover just past the X-Women blue line, feeding Morden for a partial breakaway, who beat STX goalie Brooklyn Oakes in tight.

Rey had to be on her game early in the second period, turning away a dangerous looking shot from Tea Pearce that glanced off the Pandas goalie's shoulder and over the net.

Another STFX turnover at the blueline led to the Pandas second goal. Abbey Bourdeaud'hui intercepted a pass at the line, taking a shot that rung off the post, before bouncing off Craig and past Oakes.

After going 0/7 on the powerplay on Thursday, and scoreless in their first four attempts on Saturday, the Pandas finally found a goal on the advatage. It took three attempts, but Lajoie was able to bang a puck past Oakes in the STFX crease off a blocked shot from Sara Kazeil.

Rey saved her best for last to preserve the shutout, turning aside 15 shots over the final 10 minutes to secure the shutout and win.
