EDMONTON - The Pandas Tennis team won eight of the nine combined singles and doubles matches, cruising to a 6-1 win over the UBC Thunderbirds in the 2025 Western Canadian Final.Â
It is the Pandas 14th-straight Western title, and punches their ticket to the 2025 U SPORTS Championship this August. The Pandas are the five-time defending national champions, and have now won 12-straight matches against UBC. During their national title streak, the Pandas own a 41-2 win/loss record, and are a combined 216-48 in singles and doubles matches.Â
The Pandas earned three tight doubles wins to open the match on Saturday afternoon, with
Emma Rutherford and
Alexandra Jewitt securing the point with an 8-5 win.Â
Both Rutherford and Jewitt also won their singles matches shortly after, including a 6-3, 6-3 win by Rutherford in the #1 ranked singles match.Â
Emily Granson cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win in the #2 singles match, followed by singles wins from
Marena Diaz Nakagawa and
Klara Merrick in the 6-1 win.Â
