EDMONTON, Alta. — The University of Alberta Golden Bears powered past the Mount Royal Cougars 7–4 on Friday night at Clare Drake Arena, using a dominant offensive display led by
Justin Hall and
Adam Hall, who each scored twice.
The Hall twins finished with three points each, with Dawson Davidson
Tyson Laventure also recording multi-point performances.
Ethan Kruger made 28 saves to improve to 5-1-1 this season as the Bears starter. The win sees Alberta improve to 7-3-1 on the season.
First Period
Mount Royal struck first just 61 seconds in when Blake Stevenson buried a feed from Josh Tarzwell to make it 1–0. Alberta equalized at 3:27, as
Adam Hall took a pass from
Blake Gustafson and fired home his sixth goal of the season. The Cougars regained the lead at 8:50 when Connor Poffenroth scored off a setup from Dawson Milliken, but Alberta answered again just under two minutes later.
Gleb Tkach knotted the score at 2–2, assisted by
Bruce MacGregor and Dawson Davidson.
Late in the frame, with the Bears shorthanded,
Alex Thacker struck at 16:14 off a feed from
Tyson Laventure, giving Alberta its first lead of the night at 3–2.
Second Period
The Bears extended their lead early in the second, again while shorthanded. At 7:04,
Adam Hall tallied his second of the night, assisted by
Justin Hall, to make it 4–2. Mount Royal cut the deficit back to one at 16:58, when Tarzwell converted off a Connor Bouchard feed, closing the gap to 4–3 heading into the final period.
Third Period
Alberta opened the third on the power play and capitalized quickly. Dawson Davidson scored at 0:46, assisted by
Mason Ward and Thacker, to restore a two-goal cushion. At 6:39,
Justin Hall added his first of the game, with assists from Laventure and
Adam Hall, pushing the lead to 6–3.
The Cougars responded at 9:56, when Vaughn Watterodt scored off a setup from Connor Poffenroth and Jaxon Martens, but Alberta closed the door late.
Justin Hall sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 17:28, assisted by
Aiden Yakimchuk, capping a three-point performance.
