Story Lines:

  • The top-ranked team in U SPORTS finally makes their home debut, as Pandas Volleyball welcomes UFV to Saville Community Sports Centre.
  • The Pandas bring back virtually the same team from a year ago, highlighted by third-year outside Abby Guezen, who spent the summer playing on the Canadian Senior National Team.
  • Other key returners include middles Ronnie Dickson and Allie Moore, and outsides Laila Johnston and Mackenzie Pool.
  • The defending Canada West Champions opened conference play with series sweeps over Saskatchewan and UBC Okanagan.

  • In a rematch of last season's Canada West Semifinal, the Golden Bears and Cougars will clash in a home-and-home series.
  • Including the semifinal series win over Alberta, MRU has won five of the last six meetings with the Bears.
  • Continuing to lead the Bears in scoring is fifth-year captain Dawson Davidson, who also leads all Canada West defenceman with 13 points in 10 games.
  • Last Friday night's result was Bears head coach Ian Herbers' 200th career Canada West win. Herbers is 9th in UofA history with 200 conference wins, and third among Bears hockey head coaches. Clare Drake won 393 between Bears Hockey and Football, while Rob Daum won 218.

  • While they sit third in the conference with 18 goals, the Pandas shockingly have given up the most goals (25) in Canada West through 10 games.

  • The Western women and Queen's men captured team titles at the 2024 national championship in Kelowna.
