Game Recap: Golden Bears Hockey |

Spartans overpower Golden Bears 7–3

LANGLEY, BC - Surrendering seven goals on 27 shots, Golden Bears Hockey loses their second-straight game to TWU, and third all-time in a 7-3 defeat.

The Bears also lost a 4-3 shootout contest to Trinity Western (2-12-1) earlier in the month, and see their record fall to 7-7-1 this season.

Trinity Western's Artem Hrabovetskyi led all scorers with a hat trick, striking once in each period and adding an assist for a four-point outing. Christian Lowe also delivered a standout performance with one goal and two assists, finishing +4. Jonathan Krahn contributed a goal and an assist, while Mikhailo Simchuk added a goal and an assist of his own.

For Alberta, Sam Popowich, Marcus Pacheco, and Dylan Ruptash provided the offence with one goal each. Gleb Tkach and Jayden Joly added assists, while goaltender Ethan Kruger made 20 saves in the loss.

First Period

Trinity Western opened the scoring at 6:22, when Connor Farren finished off a passing sequence from Jonathan Krahn and Cyprus Smith-Davis to make it 1–0. Alberta responded at 18:06, as Sam Popowich converted a feed from Adam Hall and Blake Gustafson, tying the game 1–1.

However, the Spartans reclaimed the lead just before the buzzer. With 19:41 on the clock, Mikhailo Simchuk scored off assists from Hrabovetskyi and Lowe, sending TWU into the break ahead 2–1.

Second Period

The Spartans extended their lead at 5:02, when Hrabovetskyi scored his second of the night off a setup from Simchuk and Ricards Landmanis, pushing the margin to 3–1. Alberta answered 14 seconds later as Marcus Pacheco buried a pass from Tkach and Joly, cutting the deficit to 3–2.

A costly turnover on an Alberta power play at 15:42 led to a short-handed break for the Spartans, and Lowe made no mistake, restoring a two-goal lead heading into the third.

Third Period

TWU's special teams continued to make the difference. At 3:31, Krahn scored a power-play marker, assisted by Aiden Knutson and Lowe, extending the lead to 5–2. Hrabovetskyi completed his hat trick at 8:02, finishing a feed from Simchuk to put the Spartans firmly in control.

Alberta salvaged one more at 10:07, when Dylan Ruptash scored off passes from Popowich and Owen Pederson, narrowing the score to 6–3.

TWU capped the night with an empty-net goal from Hrabovetskyi at 18:21, assisted by goaltender Leon Sommer, sealing the 7–3 final.
