Pandas ride dominant first-half to 91-53 big win over Bobcats

Alberta records a 30-point run in the first half to remain undefeated against Brandon

EDMONTON - Fourth-year Kiah Easton-Ihediohanma scored a game-high 21 points, her most since November 2023, as the Alberta Pandas dominated the Brandon Bobcats in a 91-53 victory Friday evening at the Saville Centre.

It was a standout performance from the #2-ranked team in the nation, as they impressed in essentially every aspect of the game. They outshot the Bobcats 38.1%-to-29.4%, and the biggest story may have been on the defensive side where they held a huge rebounding (55-39) and turnover advantage (29-9). Joining Easton-Ihediohanma was Reece Hall who had a 14-point nine-rebound performance. The Pandas move to 5-0 on the young season, just below the top-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies.

The Bobcats saw good performances from Piper Ingalls and Macaya Copeland, who had 12 and 11 points respectively to lead the team, while shooting a cumulative 12-for-12 from the line. They slide to 3-4 on the year, and look to exorcise some demons tomorrow in the weekend finale.

Both teams struggled to find an early rhythm in this one, as the score was a tight 17-15 advantage for the hosts with just under three minutes to play in the first, with the squads shooting in the 20% range. However, the Pandas decided to go nuclear at this point of the first, going on a multi-quarter 30-point run that only ended with 5:45 to go in the second frame. Kiah Easton-Ihediohanma starred for the Pandas, scoring 11 points on the run and grabbing three steals, while Reece Hall had five points and seven rebounds to put the Pandas up big at the half, 55-25. It was a remarkable first half for the Alberta side, as they routinely outshot (39.6%-to-16.7%), outrebounded (34-20 overall, 17-4 offensive), and outstole (11-1) their Brandon counterparts. The Bobcats would tighten up in the second half, but it was too late in the game, as the Pandas took the second half 36-28, and the game 91-53.

The teams return to action tomorrow evening for their last meeting of the year.
