Edmonton, AB — The visiting Manitoba Bisons earned four of a possible six points over the weekend, following up Saturday's 1-0 win with a 1-1 draw with the Alberta Pandas on Sunday at Foote Field.Â
With the Pandas draw and a Saskatchewan win on Sunday, Alberta has been eliminated from Canada West post-season contention, as their record moves to 4-5-3 on the season. The Pandas earned just one point in their weekend series against the Bisons, falling seven points back of the Huskies with just two games remaining.Â
Alberta will host MacEwan next Saturday at Foote Field in their final home conference game of 2025.Â
The Pandas dictated the flow of play for the majority of the afternoon, particularly in a first half where they registered 13 shots, testing Manitoba goalkeeper Holly Dyker repeatedly. Dyker, who ultimately finished the contest with a game-high 11 saves, was the key reason Manitoba kept the score level until the dying seconds of the opening frame. Despite Alberta's continuous pressure, it took until the 45:00 mark for them to break the deadlock when Seck banged in a rebound off a Pandas corner.Â
Just eleven minutes into the second half, the Bisons found their breakthrough. At the 56:15 mark, midfielder Bianca Cavalcanti delivered a crucial assist to Sarina Mann, who beat Pandas keeper
Autumn Wynn on a breakaway to level the score at 1-1. The goal was Mann's second of the season and proved to be the final score of the match.
Despite Alberta's concerted effort to reclaim the lead included six corner kicks and numerous shots in the final 30 minutes. Holly Dyker was instrumental, turning away headers from
Emily Duxbury and a low effort from
Mila Van der Veen to preserve the tie in the final minutes.Â
Wynn also made a key save late on a shot by Manitoba substitute Taleesa Minnaar, ensuring the points were split in Edmonton.
