Pandas place third, Bears fourth at Dinos Invitational

CALGARY - The University of Alberta wrestling teams turned in a strong collective performance at the Dinos Invitational on October 18, 2025, with multiple individual podiums and a pair of team top-three finishes at the University of Calgary-hosted meet.

On the women's side, the Pandas placed third overall with 48 points, led by standout results across several weight classes. In the 50 kg division, Victoria Stefanov claimed top spot, outpacing Calgary's Paige Kirkness and Alberta Elite's Bandeep Randhawa for the win. At 56 kg, Natasha Ekundayo battled to a silver medal behind EWC Bears' Robbie Ann Pingal, while Sarah Clarke earned bronze at 59 kg in another competitive field. Alberta's depth showed at 53 kg, where Julia Daus and Natalya Jara finished fourth and fifth, respectively, rounding out consistent efforts through the lighter weights.

The Pandas continued to show strength at the higher classes, highlighted by Aaliyah Hartfielder's silver at 72 kg, finishing behind Calgary's Clara Smithanik. In the 68 kg bracket, Fielder Bishop placed fourth among a deep pool of competitors.

On the men's side, the Golden Bears finished fourth overall with 23 points in a field dominated by the University of Saskatchewan and Calgary. Alberta's highlight came in the 90 kg category, where Thomas Rousseau captured gold over EWC Bears' Landon Mudjar and Calgary's Brantley Saar. At 82 kg, Eli Fines took silver behind Burnaby Mountain's Jasmit Phulka, while David Sultanow added a bronze at 125 kg to close the Bears' medal tally.

Across the board, Alberta athletes consistently placed inside the top five, reinforcing the program's depth and competitiveness heading into the mid-season schedule. The host University of Calgary claimed the women's team title with 73 points, while the University of Saskatchewan earned top honours on the men's side with 46 points.
