EDMONTON - The University of Alberta Pandas delivered a complete performance Friday night at MacEwan, shutting out the Griffins 4–0 behind a 28-save effort from goaltender
Grace Glover.Â
Kallie Clouston scored twice, alongside goals from
Emma Power and
Jadynn Morden for the Pandas, who moved to 1-0-2 with the win.Â
The visitors wasted no time asserting control, capitalizing early despite being shorthanded. At 4:03 of the first period, Clouston opened the scoring with a short-handed tally — Alberta's first of the game and her first of the season. The goal came off a strong forecheck with
Sara Kazeil,
Raegan Yewdall, and
Abby Soyko on the ice. The Pandas kept the pressure on, and at 10:28, Power doubled the lead, finishing a crisp setup from
Holly Magnus and
Hayleigh Craig to make it 2–0 Alberta through 20 minutes.
MacEwan generated nine shots in the opening frame and 12 more in the second but couldn't solve Glover, who turned aside every attempt with composure.
The Pandas put the game out of reach in the third period. At 10:34, Morden struck on the power play, wiring home a shot assisted by Soyko and
Natalie Kieser. Alberta continued to dictate play as MacEwan struggled to maintain offensive zone pressure.Â
With under a minute remaining, Clouston added her second goal of the night at 19:30, finishing a feed from Morden and Craig to cap off Alberta's dominant effort.
Alberta outshot MacEwan 32–28, going 1-for-4 on the power play while holding the Griffins scoreless on four opportunities. Taya Currie made 28 saves in the loss for MacEwan, while Glover earned her first shutout of the season, and 11th in her young career.Â
The Pandas will host the rubber match, Saturday at 5:00 PM at Clare Drake Arena.Â
