Game Recap: Golden Bears Hockey | | Connor Hood

Palmer, Nash lead Bears to 4-0 win over Regina

Bears improve to 17-4-0 with fourth-straight win

EDMONTON - Ty Nash scored twice, his second multi-goal game of the season, coupled with a 25-save shutout from rookie Tyler Palmer leading the Golden Bears to a 4-0 win over Regina.

The shutout for Palmer was his second this season, as he improves his record to 10-2-0 in his first season with the Evergreen and Gold. Aidan de la Gorgendiere and Jakin Smallwood both added goals and an assist each for a Bears team that has now won four-straight, and sit atop the East Division of Canada West with a 17-4-0 record.

Adam Evanoff gave the visitors a chance with 34 saves on 38 Alberta shots, but his strong game between the pipes wasn't enough for a Cougars squad that falls to 3-16-0.

Nash opened the scoring eight minutes into the first, beating Evanoff with his sixth of the season. Making eight saves in the first, Palmer wasn't overly tested, with Alberta holding a 1-0 lead through 20.

de la Gorgendiere doubled the lead midway through the second. With his two points on Friday, the sophomore Bear maintains his hold on second in the conference scoring race with 29 points in 21 games.

Despite increased traffic in front of Palmer, the Cougars were unable to beat the first-year netminder, who has won each of his last five starts.

Smallwood added to the lead early in the third, tapping in a rebound created off an incredible stick save from Evanoff. Nash tipped in a de la Gorgendiere point shot seven minutes later to ice the victory for Alberta.

The two sides will meet once again tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. MT.
