Idrizi magnificent in 2-0 Bears victory over Huskies

Rilind Idrizi scores, assists in impressive Alberta win

EDMONTON - Rilind Idrizi had a goal and an assist in a dominant 2-0 Alberta Golden Bears victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Foote Field.

Idrizi was spectacular as the Bears largely controlled the contest, outshooting the Huskies 17-3 (8-1 on target). Caden Ruby was the benefactor of Idrizi's assist, with both goals coming in the first half. Liam Collens recorded his fifth clean sheet of the year.

The win moves the Bears to 7-1-2, still leading the Prairie Division, and is their fourth win in their last five games. The Huskies lose for the fifth time in six contests, and sit at 3-8-0 on the year.

The game got off to a crawling start, owing a lot to the chilly and inclement weather at kickoff, and while there were seven combined shots at the first third mark, most were quite ambitious tries from distance. That is, until the 28th minute when Bears captain Jake Bosch carried the ball from just inside the half all the way inside the box and laid a great pass to Idrizi who scored his fourth of the campaign to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Idrizi was not done there, as just before the half he found an open Ruby in the box who made no mistake for his second goal in as many days. The Bears would head into the half with a 2-0 advantage.

The second half saw more Bears dominance, as they possessed the ball for the vast majority of the period and only allowed one shot on target. This shot, however, was the best chance either side would see as a Liam Collens overshoot of a ball led to a wide open net chance for Alessandro Calado, who put it between the sticks but was dramatically saved by Bears defender Thomas Hope who was able to clear the danger and keep the clean sheet alive. They would clock the rest of the half out en route to a 2-0 victory.

The Huskies have one game at home next weekend against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, while the Bears travel to Calgary to take on the MRU Cougars and the Calgary Dinos.
