WINNIPEG, MB -
Brandon Meiklejohn scored a team-high 22 points, to go along with 20 from fellow fifth-year guard
Lars Ishimwe, as Alberta escaped with a 97-93 Play-In game win over Mount Royal on Wednesday afternoon.
Leading by as many as 21 in the third quarter, the Cougars cut the lead down to one point in the final three minutes, before Meiklejohn hit a clutch three to ice the win for Alberta. The win sends the Bears to the quarter-final round in Winnipeg, where they will battle the Calgary Dinos tomorrow afternoon.Â
Alberta's starters combined for 82 of their 97 points, with
Isaac Simon scoring 17,
Adam Paige adding 15, and Egert eight, including a full-court shot to end the first half. The Bears also made one more three-pointer in the win, as they lead for 39 of the 40 minutes of action.Â

"We were up early and got a little lackadaisical. Mount Royal fought to get it to a one possession game. Every possession matters. I was talking to the other guys, saying if we miss this free throw we're getting the offensive rebound no matter what," said Paige." We missed it and I got a little box out and snatched the rebound. Every possession matters."
Keivonte Watts was terrific for MRU during their comeback bid, finishing with a game-high 35 points on 12/19 shooting, making five of his nine shots from beyond the arc. Holt Tomie added 21 points, to go along with 18 from Mawien Mawien.Â
