EDMONTON - After a slow opening frame, the Golden Bears outscore Manitoba 6-2 over the last 40, outshooting the Bisons 33-14 in the second and third periods in a 7-3 win.Â
Seven different Bears scored in the rout, with Justin Hall, Sean Tschigerl, Aidan de la Gorgendiere, Eric Florchuk, Tyler Preziuso, Adam Hall, and Brett Hyland finding the twine. de la Gorgendiere, Justin Hall, Josh Prokop, Preziuso, and Tschigerl also recorded multi-point games in the win, which sees Alberta improve to 3-0-0 to start conference play. It is the Bears second-straight win over Manitoba, and seventh in their last eight meetings.Â
Skyler Bruce, Hayden Ostir, and Jonny Hooker scored for Manitoba, who suffer the loss in their season-opener. Ethan Kruger made 21 saves in the win for Alberta, while Braden Holt stopped 37 of the 44 Bears shots he faced.Â
The teams finished the first 20 minutes tied with one goal apiece, with Justin Hall and Bruce matching goals. Alberta finished with an 11-10 shot advantage in a period that lacked juice.
The offensive onslaught for Alberta began in the second, as the Bears scored three goals on 24 shots. Tschigerl opened the scoring with his first as a Bear, followed quickly by tallies from de la Gorgendiere and Florchuk. With two points on Friday night, de la Gorgendiere is now tied for the conference lead with seven points in three games.Â
Preziuso added to the Bears lead just 39 seconds into the third period, before Adam Hall and Hyland extended the Alberta lead to six. Ostir and Hooker scored late for Manitoba to make the final 7-3.Â
Alberta will host the rematch at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow in a rare Saturday matinée at Clare Drake Arena.Â
